The Founding Fathers had it right when they designed our system. They set it up so the House of Representatives, the body in Congress that is supposed to be closest to the people, has to stand for election the most often – every two years. In other words, it’s never too long before people get a chance to either keep, or kick out, their Member of Congress.
Even though we just took office one year ago…today we filed our nomination petitions with the Lorain County Board of Elections to get on the ballot for re-election. The process is relatively straight forward…you obtain petitions, then gather signatures from registered voters in your district who belong to your political party. You need 50 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. You may turn in up to 150 signatures in order to get 50 good ones (we turned in 149!).
We should know by February 18th whether or not enough of our signatures were validated. Until then, we keep working on behalf of the families and taxpayers of Ohio’s 4th Congressional District!
